About Certidox

Preventing fraud in your name through verifiable documents and emails.

Certidox is a technology company based in Chicago, Illinois, founded and led by Rémy A. Eisenstein.

We address a fundamental problem in business communications: people and organizations routinely make important decisions based on documents and emails whose authenticity they cannot reliably establish.

Our mission is to make the authenticity of business communications instantly and independently verifiable, without compromising confidentiality.

Why we founded Certidox

Several experiences shaped our founder’s decision to create Certidox.

A Fox report on fake diplomas drew his attention to the trade in fabricated academic credentials.

During a real estate transaction, he faced instructions to transfer money to an escrow account without a reliable means of independently authenticating them.

He also encountered a certified deed bearing a seal only on its fourth page, leaving the preceding pages without equivalent protection against substitution. A notarized power of attorney revealed a similar weakness: the notarization appeared only on the signature page, while the other pages could potentially be replaced without disturbing it.

In another incident, a business contact’s company was impersonated through a fraudulent mass email falsely announcing a change of bank account and directing recipients to send invoice payments elsewhere.

Different situations, but the same underlying vulnerability: the appearance of authenticity was being mistaken for evidence of authenticity.

These experiences gave rise to the conviction on which Certidox was founded: people should be able to independently establish the authenticity of important information before relying on it.

What We Stand For

Confidentiality and privacy come first

Information deserves protection even when its authenticity needs to be established.

We believe that organizations and individuals should not have to expose confidential information to a third-party provider merely to make it verifiable.

Respect for confidentiality and privacy begins with limiting unnecessary access to information, rather than relying exclusively on promises about how that information will be handled.

Trust must be supported by evidence

Signatures, seals, familiar logos and recognized email addresses can inspire confidence. But appearances alone cannot establish authenticity.

We believe recipients should have access to reliable evidence of where information comes from and whether its integrity has been preserved.

Verification should take place before important decisions are made, not only after something goes wrong.

Evidence must withstand independent scrutiny

When authenticity is disputed, neither party should have to rely solely on the assurances of the other party or of a technology provider.

Evidence should remain available for independent examination, allowing competing claims to be assessed on their merits.

This commitment to transparency and accountability is fundamental to the way we believe trust should be established.

Our Ambition

Our ambition is to make instant and independent verification the standard wherever authenticity matters, across digital and printed documents, emails, and beyond.

Certidox's current solutions address documents and emails, but our vision extends far beyond them.

From official records and apostilles to emerging forms of digital information and evidence, the need to establish authenticity continues to evolve. We intend to develop new solutions that address these challenges while remaining faithful to our founding principles: confidentiality, verifiable evidence, and accountability.

We believe that the ability to verify important information should become an ordinary expectation, not an exceptional precaution taken only after fraud or a dispute.

Our goal is not to replace trust, but to give it a verifiable foundation.
